KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – The Jamaica Council for Persons with Disabilities (JCPD) has launched a new digital platform to improve access to services and increase registration among persons with disabilities across the island.

The platform, called “I Am Able: My JCPD,” allows individuals to register online and access benefits and support services through a secure and user-friendly system. Officials say the initiative will reduce the need for repeated in-person visits and strengthen access to the Council’s programmes.

Executive Director of the Council, Christine Hendricks, said the digital platform is part of a broader push to promote inclusion and ensure persons with disabilities receive the support available to them.

She noted that while 15,888 people are currently registered with the Council, an estimated 41,800 persons with disabilities live in Jamaica, leaving more than 20,000 individuals who have not yet registered.

Hendricks said the Council is working to close that gap through outreach and partnerships to locate and engage persons who may not yet be connected to available services.

“We want to ensure that every person with a disability has access to the benefits, programmes, and resources available through the Council. Registration is the first step in that process,” she said.

According to Hendricks, the digital transformation will also support better planning by providing data to inform policies and programmes that improve the quality of life for persons with disabilities.

She added that the platform will empower users by giving them greater control over how they access services, while promoting independence, dignity, and equal opportunity.
