BERMUDA-Bermuda to chair UKOTA.

HAMILTON, Bermuda, CMC – The Bermuda government has welcomed the election of Kimberley Durrant as Chair of the United Kingdom Overseas Territories Association (UKOTA), saying it is an accomplishment that reinforces Bermuda’s recognition in London.

As a result of the election of Durrant, the United Kingdom Representative and Director of the Bermuda London Office, Premier David Burt, in accordance with the Association’s constitution, will serve as President of the Political Council.

UKOTA is recognised as the official advocacy bloc and unified voice of the UK Overseas Territories, playing a pivotal role in shaping policy, coordinating Territory interests, and strengthening relationships with the UK Government, Parliament, and the wider international diplomatic community.

Since its establishment in 1993, the Association has brought together the governments of the UK’s inhabited Overseas Territories to advocate collectively, engage directly with key UK departments, and champion shared priorities on the global stage.

“Congratulations to Ms. Durrant on her appointment as Chairman of UKOTA. As a well-respected member, Kimberley’s election honours not just her leadership, but Bermuda’s reputation for diplomacy, professionalism, and long-standing engagement on behalf of the Overseas Territories.

“In my capacity as President, I will support Leaders across the Overseas Territories and work collectively to enhance our shared priorities. This level of representation gives Bermuda access and opportunities for greater economic and political representation, globally,” Burt said in a statement.

“I extend sincere gratitude to the Government of the British Virgin Islands and their UK Representative for their steadfast leadership during the 2025/2026 tenure. I am deeply honoured to be elected Chair, a position I previously held.

“It is my duty to serve not just Bermuda but across the Territories as we deliver our priorities on trade, financial services, climate policy, and the rights and opportunities of Overseas Territory citizens,” Burt added.
