GEORGETOWN, Guyana, CMC – President Irfaan Ali says the election of businessman David Fernandes as President of the Caribbean Poultry Association (CPA) underscores Guyana’s growing influence in regional agriculture and food production.
Fernandes, the managing director of Bountry Farms Limited, the largest entity in the local poultry industry, will serve as CPA president for a two-year term.
“I extend warm and heartfelt congratulations to Mr. David Fernandes on his election as President of the Caribbean Poultry Association (CPA) for the next two years. His elevation is richly deserved and reflects favourably on his personal leadership qualities as well as Guyana’s growing influence in regional agriculture and food production,” said President Ali, who has taken responsibility for agriculture within the quasi-Caribbean Community (CARICOM) cabinet.
Ali, who is actively leading the Caribbean’s agricultural production and food security agenda, specifically driving the CARICOM “25 by 25” initiative to reduce the region’s food import bill, said he is confident that Fernandes efforts and those of the CPA will be impactful and will contribute to greater food security within the Caribbean.
“I look forward to working with the CPA to expand regional broiler production, dismantle longstanding trade barriers within CARICOM, and strengthen food security and resilience across the Caribbean,” Ali said.
Fernandes is also part of Tacama Gold Inc., a company focused on corn and soya production.
