Former US Virgin Islands sports official sentenced in federal courtroom
The ex-commissioner was convicted of conspiracy and bribery related to the misappropriation of public funds

CHARLOTTE AMALIE, US Virgin Islands, CMC – Former Sports, Parks and Recreation Commissioner Calvert White was on Thursday sentenced in federal court to five years in prison, followed by three years of supervised release.

He was sentenced for his role in a public corruption scheme involving federal funds. White and business owner Benjamin Hendricks were convicted of honest services wire fraud and bribery concerning a federally funded programme in July.

US District Judge Mark Kearney ordered White to surrender on March 2. Until then, the court ordered that he wear a GPS monitoring bracelet.

Co-defendant Benjamin Hendricks was sentenced to five years and eight months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release. Prosecutors argued that Hendricks acted as an intermediary in the bribery scheme.
