
ST. GEORGE’S, Grenada, CMC – Grenada upset defending champions St Vincent and the Grenadines 64–63 on Sunday, but could not prevent them from retaining their title in the ECCB International Netball Series.
Despite handing the Vincy Jewels their first loss in the tournament since 2024, the defending champs were still crowned winners after ending on 16 points. Grenada finished second with 12 points, a goal difference of 167, while third-place Saint Lucia also had 12 points but an inferior goal difference of 73.
Grenada led all three quarters 16-9, 33-28, and 52-43, on their way to winning by a single goal, bringing back memories of 2023 in Antigua, when the Jewels lost the title to Grenada by one goal, 34–33.
Leading the Grenadian charge was Lottysha Cato, who scored 56 goals from 61 attempts, and Celina Brown with eight goals from 10 attempts.
For Vincy Jewels, goal-shooter Maryann Frederick netted 56 goals from 59 attempts, and Shellisa Davis scored seven goals from her eight attempts.
Vincy Jewels’ Maryann Frederick was the Most Accurate Shooter of the tournament, scoring 92 per cent while netting 429 goals from 466 attempts in nine matches.
Cato ended with a shooting accuracy of 85 per cent, scoring 330 goals from 388 attempts in eight matches.
Frederick was also judged MVP of the tournament and team MVP, while the Best Shooting Team and Best Defending Team Awards went to Saint Vincent & the Grenadines.
