PARAMARIBO, Suriname, CMC – The annual general meeting, conference, and exhibition of the Caribbean Shipping Association (CSA) will be held here from October 12-14, with Suriname hoping for excellent visibility from the event.

“Our goal is clear: exposure. We want companies, investors, and international partners to get to know our country, establish contacts, and explore opportunities for collaboration,” said Reza Karg, the Corporate Affairs Manager at Port Authority here.

Karg told reporters that the day event, which the Port Authority is organising in collaboration with various local partners, is expected to be attended by more than 450 delegates.

“The CSA determines the format, but we’ve suggested focusing on topics such as greening and the energy transition in shipping,” Karg said, noting that sustainability is a key theme this year.

“At a conference like this, you connect with other players who share the same ambition and who can provide the knowledge, technology, and solutions to realize that vision,” said Karg, adding that with the Dutch-speaking Caribbean Community (CARICOM) hosting the event, it opens the door for local businesses.

“The barrier to entry is significantly lowered. There are no transportation or accommodation costs abroad, and companies connect directly with international and Caribbean partners,” he said. In addition to the conference, there will be a trade fair where companies can present their products, services, and innovations.

A special feature of the CSA conference is the annual awards, with companies seeking prizes based on criteria such as efficiency, environmental policy, gender policy, and productivity.

. “The Caribbean is geographically dispersed and needs a central organization that represents the industry’s interests. Meetings like this are crucial for knowledge sharing and achieving shared goals,” Karg said.
