BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC – The former chief executive officer of the Environmental Foundation of Jamaica (EFJ), Barrington Lewis, has been appointed chief financial officer of the Caribbean Biodiversity Fund (CBF).

The CBF is a regional umbrella environmental fund that implements innovative solutions and consolidates regional conservation impacts in the Caribbean through a range of financial instruments.

It was established in 2012 to create reliable, long-term funding for conservation and sustainable development in the Caribbean region. The CBF was designed as part of the Caribbean Challenge Initiative,

Lewis’s appointment becomes effective from August 1, and the CBF said that he brings over 30 years of experience in the accounting field, having served in various capacities, including external auditor and chief accountant for different organizations. He has also worked as a strategic planner and consultant.

“We are delighted to welcome Mr. Barrington Lewis to the Caribbean Biodiversity Fund. His extensive financial expertise and leadership, particularly his experience in managing a significant environmental foundation, will be invaluable as we continue to strengthen our financial operations and expand our impact across the Caribbean region,” said CBF chair Karolin Troubetzkoy.

“We are confident that Barrington will play a critical role in advancing our mission to provide a sustainable funding mechanism for conservation and sustainable development in the region,” she added.

The CBF said that Lewis brings over three decades of comprehensive experience in the accounting sector, including roles as an external auditor and chief accountant across diverse organizations.

Lewis is a graduate of the University of the West Indies with a Bachelor of Science degree with double majors in Accounting and Economics (Hons) and a Master of Science in Accounting. He is also a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and is recognized as a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Jamaica.
