KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – Team Jamaica delivered an outstanding performance at the 2025 Caribbean Amateur Golf Championships (CAGC), securing second place overall and the Arthur Zaidie Trophy Runner-Up title with 23 points.
However, the celebration was briefly overshadowed by an awards ceremony error that initially saw the Dominican Republic mistakenly presented with the runner-up trophy before officials corrected the standings.
Held over three days at the Barbados Golf Club, Jamaica’s strong showing was led by their Men’s team, which placed 3rd with a combined score of +35.
Oshae Haye finished 6th individually at +3, while Ryan Lue secured 9th place at +8. The Ladies’ team took 4th overall (+53), with Mattea Issa (5th, +26) and Emily Mayne (6th, +27) leading the charge.
The confusion arose during the presentation of the Arthur Zaidie Trophy, where the Dominican Republic, with 22 points, was initially named runner-up before a post-event review confirmed Jamaica’s 23-point tally as the rightful second-place finish.
The Caribbean Golf Association (CGA) swiftly issued a clarification and apology, acknowledging the unprecedented error.
“Team Jamaica, with 23 points, is the rightful Runner-Up,” the CGA stated. “We regret the initial mistake and are working with Golf Genius to implement automated scoring safeguards for future events.”
Jamaica Golf Association President Jodi Munn Barrow praised the team’s composure. “Despite the mix-up, our players displayed remarkable integrity. This achievement underscores the progress of Jamaican golf.”
The CGA and Jamaican officials are now collaborating to ensure proper recognition for Team Jamaica’s stellar performance.
