CARIBBEAN-Antigua and Barbuda signs accession to the CARICOM Arrest Warrant Treaty.

KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – Antigua and Barbuda’s Foreign Affairs Minister, E.P. Chet Greene, on Tuesday deposited the Instrument of Accession for the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Arrest Warrant Treaty that came into force in July 2018.

The CARICOM Secretariat said that the objective of this treaty is to establish, within the Caribbean Community, a system of arrest and surrender of requested persons to conduct in respect of those persons a criminal prosecution for an applicable offence.

It is also intended to executing a custodial sentence or greater punishment where the requested persons have fled from justice after being convicted or sentenced for an applicable According to the CARICOM Secretart website, Barbados, Guyana and Grenada ratified the treaty in 2018 ans 2019, while The Bahamas, Dominica, Guyana, Jamaica St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia and Trinidad and Tobago signed between 2017 and 2018.
