ST. JOHN’S, Antigua, CMC—Antigua and Barbuda Prime Minister Gaston Browne has named June 25 this year as Census Day, urging the population to participate in the national exercise, which he acknowledged has significant implications for the country’s socio-economic development and planning.

Browne insisted that the event was non-partisan, saying, “This is not about political allegiance.

“It’s about coming together as a nation to ensure each resident is accounted for,” Prime Minister Browne said, underscoring the importance of having accurate census data that is vital for healthcare planning, economic statistics like per capita income, and understanding public health trends such as morbidity and mortality rates.

He said that census officers are bound by confidentiality and that participation will not affect individuals’ status in the country.

“It is crucial that we send a strong message to the population about the importance of this exercise. An inaccurate count could have lasting effects on our national policies and planning,” he added.

He said that as the country prepares for Census Day, he is hopeful widespread participation across all demographics will occur. He reiterated that the outcomes will benefit all communities and help shape the future of Antigua and Barbuda.

The last national census in Antigua and Barbuda was held in May 2011, and the total population was 87,774.
