KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC—Rock Mobile, the country’s third domestic telecommunications provider, is expected to begin operations this year after meeting the terms and conditions of its license.
Telecommunications Minister Daryl Vaz announced on Friday.
“In 2024, Rock Mobile was given a further final 12-month extension to roll out its services to the public, as well as a deferral of 12 months for the payment of annual spectrum licence. So we look forward to that, and the best information I have is that the financing has finally been approved, and they will be able to roll out in the specified time,” he said.
In 2021, Rock Mobile was awarded spectrum in the 700 MegaHertz band.
The full rollout of the company’s services was expected within two years, but additional time was granted due to the pandemic and supply chain problems.
