KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC—The Port Authority of Jamaica’s management and workers at Kingston Freeport Terminal Limited (KFTL) have reached a new wage agreement.

The agreement follows last week’s protest, which resulted in the disruption of operations at some sections of the islands’ main port. Operations slowed as scores of workers stayed off the job.

The workers’ contention centered on a proposed salary increase arising from a job evaluation, which they said unfairly excluded some of their colleagues.

The Port Authority says it was advised that KFTL’s executive management met with workers, and normal operations resumed late Thursday.

But disgruntled workers have since sought the intervention of the Ministry of Labour.

The Port Authority of Jamaica regulates the Port of Kingston and owns the cargo port facility, which KFTL manages and operates under a concession agreement.
