ST. GEORGE’S, Grenada, CMC—From 2019 to 2024, the United States deported nearly 300 nationals from the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECCS) to their homeland.

Figures released by the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Fiscal Year 2024 Annual Report show that 297 people from the nine-member OECSS subregions were deported during that period.

According to the report, St Lucia had the most deportees with 62, followed by Dominica with 57, St Vincent and the Grenadines with 51, and Grenada with 40.

Washington returned 36 people from Antigua and Barbuda to their homeland, 29 from St Kitts-Nevis, 18 from the British Virgin Island, and two from Anguilla. One person was deported to Montserrat during the period.

The report states that ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations protects the homeland by arresting and removing noncitizens who undermine the safety of US communities and the integrity of US immigration laws.

The directorate has a complex and wide-ranging mission. Its primary focus areas are interior enforcement operations, management of the agency’s detained and non-detained populations, and removal efforts.

The report states that ERO identifies noncitizens who are considered to be removable from the United States through a range of law enforcement and intelligence techniques.

According to the report, 2024 ERO arrested 113,431 noncitizens, a 33.5 percent decrease from last year’s total of 170,590 arrests.

This year, 81,312, or 71.7%, of the 113,431 noncitizensnoncitizens ERO arrested were convicted criminals or had pending criminal charges at the time of arrest.
