MELBOURNE, Australia, CMC – Barbadian allrounder Jacob Bethell top scored for the Melbourne Renegades to help his side register an exciting two-wicket victory over the Perth Scorchers when the Big Bash League continued on Monday.
The 21-year-old Bethell scored 30 from 22 balls, striking two sixes and two fours, as the Renegades overhauled the Scorchers’ 143 for eight, finishing on 144 for eight off 19 overs.
Bethell, part of England’s Test-winning squad against New Zealand in the recently concluded tour, shared a crucial 54-run stand for the fourth wicket with Laurie Evans to rescue his side after slumping to 42 for three.
The partnership proved to be the turning point of the contest, with captain Will Sutherland carrying his side over the line with an unbeaten knock of 15.
Earlier, Player-of-the-Match Tom Rogers snagged 3-22 from his four overs to limit the Scorchers despite a dazzling 66 off 50 balls by Cooper Connolly.
