CASTRIES, St. Lucia, September 29ime Minister Phillip J Pierre will attend the inauguration of Mexico’s president-electMexico’s president-elect, Claudia Sheinb, aum Pardo, on Tuesday, according to an official statement issued here.
The Office of the Prime Minister said that Pierre will travel to Mexico from the United States, where he has accepted an invitation to address St. Lucian citizens at a diaspora meeting on Sunday.
The statement said Pierre would update the nationals on developments at home.
Pierre was not among the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) leaders who addressed last week’s 79th meeting of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). Foreign Affairs Minister Alva Baptiste outlined St. Lucia’s position on global issues.
Sheinbaum is the first woman to hold the office of President in Mexico, having won the June 2 prJune 2tial vote.
Sheinbaum will be sworn in as President on October 1 instead of the usual December 1 ceremony. The transition period was shortened after Mexican legislators judged that outgoing presidents stayed too long in office. Sheinbaum will serve a six-year term through 2030.
She has pledged to follow all the policies of her predecessor and political mentor, outgoing President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
