ST. GEORGE’S, Grenada, CMC – Minister for Mental Health, Wellness, and Religious Affairs Delma Thomas will serve as the Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, Neila Ettienne, the Press Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister announced on Tuesday.

Last week, as he confirmed the sacking of Jonathan LaCrette as the sports and youth affairs minister, Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell said that the Education Minister, David Andrew, would serve in that position.

However, a notice published by the Office of the Governor General in the August 02 official Gazette said that Andrew’s appointment would be from July 31 to August 6 this year.

Etienne, responding to an inquiry as to who will be the new youth and sports minister, said that Thomas, who also serves as the Minister for Mental Health, Wellness, and Religious Affairs, with a particular focus on the Mt. Gay Psychiatric Hospital, will serve in the post until a new minister is appointed.

“Hon. Delma Thomas will serve until a new minister is appointed,” Ettienne responded via WhatsApp.

In May 2023, Thomas resigned from the main opposition New National Party (NNP), claiming “an ‘orchestrated backlash from a tiny section of the party’s leadership.’

Lauretta was also sacked as a senator, with Prime Minister Mitchell telling reporters that he had lost trust and confidence in him.
