GRENADA– Prime Minister recalls senatorial appointment of Jonathan LaCrette

ST GEORGE’S, Grenada, CMC -Jonathan LaCrette, one of three senators appointed by Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell as mandated in the Constitution, has been recalled.

According to a news release from the Government Information Service, Mitchell will host a media briefing on Thursday. Among the topics will be the recall of LaCrette’s appointment as a senator after he failed to win the St George’s Northwest constituency in the June 2022 general elections.

He was initially appointed as the Health Minister, but in a cabinet reshuffle in January 2024, he was reassigned to serve as the Sports Minister.

News of his dismissal from the cabinet began circulating on Wednesday, but the weekly cabinet meeting was delayed as Grenada hosted the 47th regular meeting of the CARICOM Heads of Government.

Other topics to be discussed on Thursday are the Chairmanship of Caricom and the hosting of the 47th Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community; Updates on the relief assistance, the rebuilding and restoration efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl;

The end of the Firearms Amnesty Act and the entry into law of the Firearms (Amendment) Act No. 2, as well as an Update on Education matters and the resumption of school in September.
