PAARL, South Africa, CMC – West Indies pair of ambidextrous spin bowling all-rounder Fabian Allen and left-arm pacer Obed McCoy made little noise when they made their opening appearances for Paarl Royals in a 27-run win against Pretoria Capitals in the SA20 on Friday.

Playing their first franchise T20s since last year’s CPL, Allen made only five when he batted and did not bowl, and McCoy returned a tidy spell of one for 26 from his allotted four overs to help the Royals formalize the result.

Chasing 161 to win in the match at Boland Park, Capitals got early momentum from England opener Phil Salt, but they stumbled to 54 for two at the end of the Power Play, including the wicket of Theunis de Bruyn caught behind for five off McCoy.

Salt was unable to transport the rich vein of form he showed in the T20 series against West Indies a little before Christmas, and Capitals labored to 80 for three at the halfway stage before he was lbw to South Africa’s unorthodox left-arm spinner Tabriaz Shamsi for the top score of 39.

South Africa international Rilee Roussouw made 29, and Capitals captain Jimmy Neesham, the New Zealand all-rounder, with 21, were the only other batsmen to get starts in the chase, and they finished on 133 for seven.

Earlier, South Africa white-ball specialist David Miller led the way with 41, and the Royals reached 160 for seven after they were put into bat.

South Africa international Andile Phehlukwayo supported with 28 not out, Mitchell van Buuren made the same score, and England international Jason Roy added 23.
