GEORGETOWN, Guyana, CMC – The Guyana Prison Service (GPS) said two people, including a woman, had been arrested by police after they attempted to smuggle marijuana into the prison.
In a statement Wednesday, the GPS said that the woman was arrested on Monday after she was searched on arrival at the facility.
It said that in one of her bags, officers found a quantity of plastic parcels containing seeds, leaves, and stems suspected to be cannabis hidden in several Colgate brand boxes along with the toothpaste tube. The properties of cannabis amounted to 22 grams.
On Tuesday, a routine search was conducted on another person on his arrival at the prison, and a quantity of seeds, leaves, and stems suspected to be cannabis were found wrapped in two pairs of slippers. The drugs weighed 227 grams.
The GPS said that the two individuals cooperate with investigators and are expected to appear in court soon.
