HARTFORD, Connecticut, CMC – St Vincent and the Grenadines international Kyle Edwards scored his third goal of the season. However, it was unsuccessful as Hartford Athletic slipped to a 4-1 defeat to the Sacramento Republic in the United Soccer League.

The 26-year-old converted a 23rd-minute penalty to cancel Russell Cicerone’s 19th-minute opener at Trinity Health Stadium on the weekend. Still, Juan Sebastian Herrera (38th), Jack Gurr (51st), and Luther Archimede (85th) all scored to put the game beyond reach.

Hartford lies bottom of the Eastern Conference on eight points from 11 games after losing their fourth in five outings.

Sacramento, meanwhile, opened up a five-point lead at the top of the Western Conference on 27 points, their win marking their third in four games.

Cicerone put the visitors ahead from the top of the box after being teed up by Arnold Lopez before Edwards leveled from the spot moments later after goalkeeper Daniel Vitiello brought down Ghanian striker Elvis Amoh in the box.

Edwards sent his spot kick to Vitiello’s right, the 27-year-old diving the right way but unable to prevent the goal.

Hartford was gaining a foothold in the contest when they conceded a penalty that Herrera tucked away, and when Gurr volleyed in a deflected strike from Aldair Sanchez’s layoff, the game had slipped away from the hosts.

With time ticking away at the end, Archimedes got on to the end of Herrera’s low cross from the right wing to stroke his finish past goalkeeper Richard Sanchez.
