LONDON, CMC – Jamaica forward Jonson Clarke-Harris, the leading scorer in English League 1, bagged a brace. Peterborough United claimed a 5-2 win in a frantic match at Burton Albion on Tuesday.
Jamaican striker Ahkeem Rose, 24, also scored twice – in the 54th and 67th minutes – for relegation-threatened Weymouth, but the hosts, who finished with ten men, crashed to a 5-2 defeat against Hungerford Town in the sixth-tier National League South clash at Bob Lucas Stadium.
In the same division, Guyana forward Connor Kurran-Browne, 21, gave Hampton & Richmond a ninth-minute lead, and the hosts edged Cheshunt 2-1 at the Beveree Stadium.
Burton Albion could have easily scored three times at the Pirelli Stadium before Peterborough scored from their first attack in the 12th minute, Ephron Mason-Clark racing down the left to set up Clarke-Harris for his 20th league goal of the season with a close-range header.
Mason-Clark added a second seven minutes later, tapping home when Tom Hamer blocked Joe Ward’s cross for the striker to finish.
Joe Powell got Albion back in the match with a stunning 25-yard drive. Still, Peterborough regained their two-goal advantage when Harrison Burrows tucked the ball home after goalkeeper Craig MacGillivray saved Ward’s effort.
Clarke-Harris looked to have put the match beyond Albion early in the second half with his second of the contest, finishing off Nathanael Ogbeta’s low cross, but substitute Jonny Smith reduced the deficit again four minutes later.
Ward slotted in a fifth after 65 minutes off the inside of a post.
In other news, Jamaican Junior Morias joined fifth-tier National League promotion hopefuls Notts County from rivals Dagenham & Redbridge for an undisclosed fee.
The 27-year-old forward, who has scored 27 goals for the Daggers since joining the London club in November 2021, moves to Meadow Lane on a three-year deal.
