GEORGETOWN, Guyana, CMC -Labour Minister Joseph Hamilton Tuesday confirmed that the body of 59-year-old Neptrid Hercules. Who went missing following an accident at the Chinese-owned BOSAI Minerals mines over the last weekend has been found.

He told the online publication Demerara Waves Online News that the bulldozer, which Hercules had been operating when the incident occurred on Saturday, had also been found.

“At least, now, the family can have closure, the fact that the body has been found,” Hamilton said, adding that it was too early to give BOSAI Minerals approval to resume operations. “There are many things that we must consider, and whatever we must do, we will do. Of course, we are working with the Geology and Mines Commission as our partner in the investigation,” he said.

Hamilton said the key priority would be ensuring proper safety at the site. Based on several reports, there needs to be an improvement at BOSAI.

The management of BOSAI, the safety department of that company, workers who were on duty, and other persons would be interviewed.

“There are all kinds of suggestions about the unsafe nature of the place,” he said.

Hercules vanished while operating the bulldozer during the early hours of Saturday, and the residents of Linden, Region 10, picketed the office of the bauxite mining company, calling for a complete halt to operations until the missing employee was located.

Hercules had been employed as an operator with the company for the last 40 years, and media reports said Hercules was set to retire later this year.
