LONDON, CMC – Veteran striker Cameron Jerome, who has expressed a desire to play for Grenada, joined English League One outfit Bolton Wanderers on an 18-month deal Friday after being released by Luton Town earlier in the day.
The 36-year-old had his contract with the Hatters, who play in the second-tier Championship, terminated by mutual agreement.
Jerome, who has scored 137 goals in 614 league appearances, could make his Bolton debut at Charlton Athletic on Saturday.
“He’s played at the top level, in Europe and played 50-odd times in the Championship in the last two years,” Bolton boss Ian Wyatt told the club website.
“People shouldn’t be misguided by his age. His physical data is still unbelievable, and he’s in incredible shape.”
Jerome, who agreed in October to represent Grenada’s Spice Boys, started his career with Cardiff City in 2004 and went on to have spells in the Premier League with Birmingham City, Stoke City, Crystal Palace, and Norwich City.
He then joined Derby County before a two-season spell in the Turkish top flight with Goztepe. Milton Keynes Dons brought him back to English football in October 2020, and he moved on to Luton the following summer.
Another player on the move with Caribbean links is 26-year-old Demetri Mitchell, who has joined League One side Exeter City from Scottish club Hibernian.
Mitchell, who has said he hopes to play for Jamaica, where his grandparents were born, can play at left-back or left-wing and has agreed on an 18-month contract at St James’ Park.
He links up with Exeter boss Gary Caldwell for the second time after he coached Mitchell as assistant manager at Hibernian.
The former Manchester United youngster moved to Hibernian from Blackpool for an undisclosed fee a year ago but struggled to break into the side.
