ST GEORGE’S, Grenada, CMC – With just one more session remaining in the 2026 CARIFTA Games, Jamaica is poised to lift the championship title for a record 40th straight time.
Entering Monday’s final day at the top of the table with 43 medals, comprising 15 gold, 16 silver, and 12 bronze medals, Jamaica added two gold medals and one silver medal to its tally.
Shamanda Wilmot began the day at the Kirani James Athletic Stadium by winning the Under-17 girls’ javelin with a throw of 46.39 meters, with Zonique Charles of Antigua and Barbuda (46.27) and Curacao’s Niaviv Matrona (41.52m) capturing silver and bronze, respectively.
Her teammate Zavien Bernard then leaped to victory in the Under-20 girls’ high jump by clearing 1.78m. Jah’kyla Morton of the British Virgin Islands was second (1.76m), while Alexandria Komolafe of The Bahamas took home the bronze medal (1.70m).
In the morning session’s other final, Trinidad and Tobago’s Michal Paul claimed gold in the Under-17 boys’ long jump.
His mark of 6.93m was comfortably ahead of second-placed Talshawn Edwards of Jamaica (6.71m) and Saint Lucia’s Randall Monroe (6.60m).
Trinidad and Tobago are currently second in the standings with 25 medals: seven gold, nine silver, and nine bronze, with The Bahamas third with 18 medals (six gold, seven silver, and five bronze).
Guyana is fourth, with three gold medals, while Barbados and the Cayman Islands have two each.
Grenada, Saint Lucia, Turks and Caicos, Bermuda, Antigua and Barbuda, Curacao, and Martinique each have one gold medal.
