MIAMI, Florida– Trinidad and Tobago has been drawn to play alongside the CONCACAF region’s second-ranked team, while Jamaica and Haiti are in a group with the top-ranked United States in the final round of qualifying for the following year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup (FWWC).
In Tuesday night’s draw, the number five ranked Jamaica and Haiti, rated 7th, were drawn in Group A with the US and hosted Mexico (3rd).
Trinidad and Tobago (8th) are in Group B with Canada, fourth-ranked Costa Rica, and sixth-ranked Panama.
The eight teams will compete in the CONCACAF Women’s Championship scheduled for July 4-18 in Monterrey, Mexico, which qualifies CONCACAF region teams for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, which will be held from July 20 to August 20 next year in Australia and New Zealand.
The summer competition will kick off with round-robin group stage play, after which the top two teams in each group will move on to the semi-finals and, in doing so, qualify directly to the 2023 FWWC.
The third-placed teams in each group will qualify for a 2023 FWWC Intercontinental Playoff.
The semi-finals, final and third-place match will be played in a single-elimination format, with the champion qualifying for both the 2024 Paris Olympics and the inaugural CONCACAF Women’s Gold Cup, to be held in 2024. The runner-up and third-place teams will also square off in a Concacaf Olympic play-in series scheduled for September 2023. The winner of that play-in series will also qualify for the Paris Olympics and the 2024 Gold Cup.
According to the schedule unveiled by CONCACAF on Wednesday, Haiti will take on the United States, and Jamaica will go up against Mexico on the opening day of play.
