Guyana government official condemns attack on travel show host at press briefing
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs calls the incident "an assault on journalism and cultural diplomacy."

GEORGETOWN, Guyana, CMC – The Guyana government has called on the police to conduct a thorough and expeditious investigation” into the attack on the internationally known host of the Jumps Travel Documentary YouTube channel.

The Ministry of Tourism, Industry, & Commerce, and the Guyana Tourism Authority, both said they “unequivocally condemn” the attack on Antony D’Oliveira.

“Such acts of violence are wholly unacceptable and run contrary to the values of hospitality, safety, and respect for which Guyana and its people are known,” the authorities said, adding that the safety and well-being of all visitors and residents remain a top priority.

“We reaffirm our commitment to working closely with law enforcement agencies, tourism stakeholders, and local communities to ensure that Guyana remains a destination where all feel secure and respected.

“In this regard, we call on the Guyana Police Force to conduct a thorough and expeditious investigation into this matter and to take all necessary steps to apprehend the individual responsible, in accordance with the law.”

The authorities did not indicate when the attack on D’Oliveira occurred. Still, they said, “We extend our sincere concern and best wishes…and trust that this matter will be addressed with the seriousness and urgency it warrants.”
