PORT F SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – Trinidad and Tobago police Wednesday urged the gunmen who held up Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh and robbed him of a gold bracelet to give themselves up to law enforcement officials, adding that several people are assisting the police in the ongoing investigation.
Deyalsingh, in a video circulating on social media, confirmed that he was robbed “in broad day light’ in his constituency in St. Joseph, along the east-west corridor on Tuesday.
In the video, Deyalsingh said that he was in his constituency, sitting near a church, “five o clock, hot sun.. with a constituent” when “two fellars walked up to me, put a gun to my head and robbed me of my bracelet” which is a traditional Indian-style gold bracelet.
Deyalsingh, who appeared unharmed, was also heard on the phone telling someone, “I am just letting you know where crime has reached.”
In a statement on Wednesday, the police said that “several persons are being interviewed and assisting” them in their investigations.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Intelligence and Investigations, Suzette Martin, says the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service strongly condemns the incident and that efforts are underway to apprehend the perpetrators as soon as possible.
“To those involved in this crime, my best advice is to turn yourself in with your attorney, relative, or friend. Rest assured, we are coming after you,” she added.
