UPDATE CARIBBEAN- Dominica discontinues tropical storm warning

ROSEAU, Dominica, CMC -The government of Dominica has discontinued the tropical storm warning and hurricane watch for the island.

Minister for National Security and Legal Affairs Rayburn Blackmoore announced this online as officials monitored the development of Hurricane Tammy.

In his statement, Blackburn said the center of Hurricane Tammy had moved 50 miles east of Dominica and is expected to move further north away from Dominica as the day progresses.

Based on advice from the Senior Met Officer and the Office of Disaster Management (OPM), the decision was taken to remove Dominica’s tropical storm warning and hurricane watch from 11 a.m. (local time).

In this regard, the National Security Minister says ‘the all clear’ has been given from 11 a.m. to resume normal activities.

However, as a precautionary measure, a flood watch may be possible from 6 p.m., with the rain continuing to be monitored for potential flooding and landslides.

Meanwhile, Hurricane Tammy has strengthened just to the east of Guadeloupe.

According to the National Hurricane Center, hurricane conditions and heavy rains are expected in portions of the Leeward Islands later on Saturday.
