Devynne Charlton of the Bahamas is through to the finals of the women’s 100 metre hurdles at the Paris Olympics.

Paris, CMC – Devynne Charlton of The Bahamas and Jamaica’s Ackera Nugent are in with a chance of grabbing a medal in the women’s 100-meter hurdles after they both qualified for the final at the Paris Olympics here Friday.

Charlton, the current 60-metre hurdles World Indoor champion and world record holder in the event, was second in Heat 1 in a time of 12.50 seconds, behind Grace Stark of the USA, who clocked 12.39 seconds.

Nugent was third in Heat 3, but her 12.44 seconds was good enough to see her advance to Saturday’s final.

Despite running a personal best time of 12.63 seconds, Charisma Taylor of the Bahamas was third in Heat 2 and did not advance.

Neither did Jamaican Janeek Brown, who finished seventh in that heat in 12.92 seconds and was eliminated along with her compatriot Danielle Williams, who was sixth in Heat 1 in 12.82 seconds.

Jamaica had better news in the 4×400 meter relay, as their women comfortably booked their spot in the final.

The quartet of Andrenette Knight, Ashley Williams, Cherokee Young, and Stephenie-Ann McPherson clocked a season’s best 3:24.92 on their way to winning Heat 2 ahead of the Netherlands (3:25.03) and Ireland (3:25.05) respectively.

The United States of America, the favorites to win the event, were the fastest qualifiers, romping to victory in Heat 1 in a season’s best time of 3:21.44.

Cuba finished eighth in that heat in 3:33.99 and did not advance.

Meanwhile, Trinidad and Tobago’s men’s 4×400 meter team of Renny Quow, Jereem Richards, Jaden Marchan, and Shakeem McKay were eliminated after finishing eighth in Heat 1 in 3:06.73.
