GEORGETOWN, Guyana – Guyana police have detained two people for questioning in connection with the murder of a 21-year-old visiting Guyanese national on Wednesday at Crabwood Creek, Upper Corentyne, Berbice.

Police said Lakhan Chaterpal, who resides in Ohio in the United States, was stabbed to his lower abdomen during an altercation with three men following a party.

Media reports said that the man had arrived here a week ago to attend his brother’s wedding last Sunday.

Police said that they are also searching for a third suspect and that the stabbing incident occurred during a family party on Tuesday night that continued into Wednesday.

They quoted relatives as saying that the three men showed up at the party and were asked to leave but instead damaged several vehicles parked outside the house.

The police said that during the confrontation, Chaterpal was stabbed and later died at the Skeldon Public Hospital.
