PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad – Trinidadian Joel Wilson is keen to make a positive contribution to the ICC Men’s Cricket Committee, on which he now sits as the Elite Panel Umpire.
The international umpire was recently appointed at the recent ICC Board Meeting in Dubai.
The 55-year-old said he welcomed the opportunity he described as a significant step.
“It is an honor and a privilege to be selected by your peers to represent the fraternity on such an important committee,” said Wilson, currently the most experienced umpire in the West Indies.
“The committee is designed to improve all aspects of the game, particularly the rules, regulations, laws, and playing conditions. Over the next year, I look forward to working with the other members of the committee in the attempt to improve all aspects of cricket … and I hope to make a more than positive impact.”
Wilson first officiated in international cricket in 2011. So far, he has stood in 28 Test matches, 75 One-Day Internationals, and 39 T20 Internationals.
In its communique, the ICC also outlined that ICC Board approved and ratified the appointments of Mahela Jayawardena as Past Player representative (reappointment), Gary Stead – National Team Coach representative, Jay Shah – as Member Board representative, and Jamie Cox – MCC Representative.
