PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC—The United States Ambassadors to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, Guyana, and Suriname will visit Trinidad and Tobago starting Tuesday.
A statement issued by the US Embassy here said that the visit is part of an ongoing regional dialogue to raise the profile of the United States’ bilateral cooperation with Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Guyana, and Suriname.
It also intends to strengthen regional diplomatic ties and cooperation between close partners and neighbors.
“This is the second time we are meeting as a group; we previously convened in Suriname. Taking the time to meet in person allows us to work collaboratively on regional issues like citizen security, sustainable energy, and development finance, and to learn from each other’s best practices,” said US Ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago, Candace Bond.
“Plus, I am eager for my colleagues to experience firsthand what I have been blessed to experience: the unmatched warmth of the Trinbagonian people and the extraordinary beauty of this country,” she said, welcoming the US. Ambassador to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean Roger Nyhus, US Ambassador to Guyana Nicole Theriot, and US Ambassador to Suriname Robert Faucher.
The US diplomats will meet with local partners and stakeholders in government, security, energy, public health, and business to discuss citizen security and security cooperation, strengthening shared democratic values, and mutual prosperity and sustainability, the Embassy said in the statement.
