Young Trinidadian, Hannah Katawaroo is now serving on the prestigious Commonwealth Youth Council for the period 2018 to 2020.

The Commonwealth Youth Council (CYC) is the official voice of the young people across all Commonwealth nations. The council’s aim is to further advance the youth development agenda by integrating young people into the development work of the Commonwealth at national, regional, and Pan-Commonwealth levels.

It also provides a sustainable platform for unified engagement with decision makers and youth-led development initiatives.

Hannah has been appointed to the Caribbean and Americas Regional Committee as the Director of Programme Implementation. In this role, she is responsible for the coordination and management of all programmes, initiatives, and projects conducted by the committee across the region.

Professionally, Hannah has advocated for human rights and social development through capacity-building projects and knowledge-sharing initiatives. She joins the committee with over six years of experience, working to strengthen and advance education policies in the Trinidad and Tobago.

Hannah currently works with a local NGO – The Living Water Community (LWC) where she works for the protection and case management of refugees and asylum-seekers in Trinidad and Tobago. In this role, she has the opportunity to merge her expertise in education with her passion for humanitarian and social work.

Academically, Hannah holds a Master’s of Science degree (Dist.) in Global Studies and a Bachelor of Arts Degree (Hons.) in Latin American Studies with minors in French and International Relations from the University of the West Indies.

Hannah will work alongside eight other young professionals from the region on the Caribbean and Americas Regional Committee of the CYC.

The Commonwealth Youth Council will also be undertaking an aggressive brand and project awareness campaign to ensure all young people across the region are aware of the organization initiatives.
