BELMOPAN, Belize, CMC – The Belize government has condemned the behavior of a woman reveler at the just concluded annual Carnival Road March who was seen on video dancing lewdly with a little boy.
The video has gone viral and drawn heavy criticism from the public. The Ministry of Human Development and the National Committee for Families and Children (NCFC) also condemned the action in a statement.
“The Ministry of Human Development, Families and Indigenous Peoples’ Affairs and the National Commission for Families and Children unequivocally decry and condemn the recent inappropriate public display of a sexual nature involving a woman and a child.
“This incident, which occurred during the Carnival Road March on September 7th, has sparked significant concern among the public as it highlights a very troubling disregard for the safety and well-being of minors and the public in general.
“This lewd display involved a child in a manner that compromised his privacy and exposed him to undue scrutiny and potential harm. Such actions are unacceptable and undermine communities’ trust in public events,” the NCFC said in its statement late Monday.
It said it would be seeking “legal advice on how to proceed with this matter,” insisting “we stand firm in our commitment to protect children from any form of exploitation, including this most inappropriate exposure.
The NCFC added, “We remain steadfast in our dedication to creating safe and respectful environments for children. “
Commissioner of Police Chester Williams has also condemned the reprehensible act.
