PARAMARIBO, Suriname, CMC – A team from the Organization of American States (OAS) has ended a four-day visit here to plan the preparation of the 54th General Assembly of the OAS to be held in Suriname.

“Six weeks before the general meeting, Suriname will also host the Association of Caribbean States (ACS) meeting. As we move forward, we will connect the specific elements and teams that can work together,” said Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Business and International Cooperation Albert Ramdin.

The OAS delegation was headed by Ambassador Francisco Lainez, the OAS director of the Department of Management Congresses and Meetings, who said he was pleased with the preparations to date.

“My then colleague within the OAS and now the driving force behind the activity here in Suriname, Albert Ramdin, had a perfect handle on such organizations there,” he said, noting that Ramdin, a former OAS assistant secretary general, understands the challenges of this meeting and the preparations.

“That doesn’t mean it will be easy. It takes a lot of coordination. Suriname and the OAS will have to work hard together to make it a success,” the OAS official said.

“We don’t want this meeting to be less than what we have had in other countries. On the contrary, we strive for better. Therefore, we will ensure that the requirements and standards are met. The higher the standards are, the better the outcome,” Ambassador Lainez added.
