KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent, Cuban president Miguel Diaz Canal arrived here on Saturday for an official three-day visit at the invitation of Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves.

In what is being described as a working visit, Gonsalves welcomed the President and his delegation and then took them on a tour of the Argyle International Airport, the country’s largest capital project – one that the government of Cuba had a part to play, both financially and technically.

This is the first official visit by a Cuban head of state to the Caribbean nation, made up of some 33 isles and Keys.

During the welcoming ceremony, Diaz-Canal was also greeted by primary school students and members of the cadet corp.

The Cuban President’s tour aims to further boost relations of friendship and cooperation with sister Caribbean nations.

He is also scheduled to address a special sitting of Parliament.

Following his visit to St Vincent and the Grenadines, the Cuban President will also participate at the 8th Summit of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) to take place on Tuesday in Barbados.
