KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent, CMC – Police had launched an investigation into the death of a 63-year-old American woman, who died when the vehicle she was driving went over an embankment in the northern Grenadine island of Bequia

They said Elizabeth Watt-Sampson, was the sole occupant of the vehicle that ended up in the sea.

“Mrs. Watt-Sampson succumbed to injuries sustained in the accident. A post-mortem examination is expected to be carried out on the body to ascertain the exact cause of death,” the police said, adding that the death is the first road fatality in the country this year.

But Watt-Sampson is the second United States national to die while visiting St. Vincent and the Grenadines over the last few months.

Last September, Alicia Zebutis, 24, of Chicago, Illinois, was pronounced dead one day after she and her husband arrived in the country. Police said then that the woman and her husband had gone hiking with friends along the La Soufriere Mountain Trail when she collapsed.

She was transported to the Georgetown Hospital, where the district medical officer pronounced her dead.

Police have not made public the findings of their investigation into Zebutis’ death.
