KINGSTON, Jamaica– Jamaica has confirmed that the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, has canceled his visit to the island.
Nath Kovind was scheduled to have arrived here on Thursday for a two-day working visit. Still, Foreign Affairs Minister, Kamina Johnson Smith, confirmed the cancellation of the trip over the weekend.
She said that the visit had been proposed as “part of a three-country visit, recognizing not only the 75th anniversary of Indian independence but the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Jamaica”.
No reasons were given for the cancellation of the trip, and the Foreign Minister said that it was “not a thought” that India’s position on the Russian invasion of Ukraine “would overturn the basis on which the visit had been accepted in the first place.”
