NETBALL-Jamaica Triumphs Over T&T in Island Vibes Tournament

KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC—The Jamaica U16 netball team continued its dominance over arch-rivals Trinidad & Tobago, following a 42-16 victory in the final game of their two-match series in the Island Vibes Tournament in Kingston recently.

The victory followed up their 40-13 win in the opening game at the Leila Robinson Courts.

Led by standout goal shooter Kaelyn-Kendra Smith, who netted an impressive 25 goals from 27 attempts, Jamaica surged to an 11-4 lead at the end of the first quarter.

They extended their advantage with a solid second quarter, scoring 12 more goals to head into the halftime break leading 23-7.

Despite T&T’s best quarter in the third, where they added seven goals, the Jamaicans held firm, maintaining a comfortable 33-14 lead.

In the final quarter, Jamaica closed the match with nine goals to Trinidad’s two, sealing the emphatic 42-16 win.

Goal attack Kheresa Pecco contributed nine goals from 11 attempts, while Kalee Martin added eight from nine.

For Trinidad, goal-attack Tenicia Goodrich was perfect with six from six, while goal-shooter McKayla Grant scored six from 10 attempts.

In the earlier U18 clash, Denbigh High made light work of Trinidad and Tobago’s U18s for the second time in the tournament following a 38-15 victory.

The Jamaican team had previously defeated the Twin Island Republic 36-18.

Denbigh steadily built their lead with quarterly scores of 10-7, 18-9, 29-14, and 38-15.

Reniece Williams was the top scorer for Denbigh, scoring 28 goals out of 40 attempts. Crisada Wignall and Abigail Williams chipped in with five goals each. Akesi Quashie led the scoring for T&T with seven goals from 10 attempts.
