I LEARNT FROM SERENA !

Dear Editor,
Serena Williams inspires not only young fans but also old ones…After she lost, I woke up feeling that I had also lost something, I cried on the way to the bagel store.
I have been joyfully watching her shine and fight through it all for the last 25 years…In her last run at the U.S. Open, Serena-the GOAT gave us her all.
I clenched my fist and screamed “Come On” with her smashes at pivotal moments. When she was up,  I was on my feet; when she was down and took a towel, I nervously took a snack from the fridge.
At Serena’s final twirl and farewell, I realize that she had taught me to have more fight to turn things around…I thought of a black woman from Compton who had broken racial barriers her whole life.I realized that she had made a middle-aged white woman feel so at one with her all these years…In a country so divided, what a win.

CLIMATE REALITIES !
Dear Editor,
We are watching as record Heat, droughts, floods, and wild fires are ravaging our country.
Our political party has made opposition to managing carbon an article of faith for the party faithful.
Climate denial is slowly evolving to an admission that it exists…So the new Party line is that while climate change is a “potential” problem, it is too expensive and disruptive to fix—so let’s burn more fossil fuels.
Remember when they said that taking lead out of gasoline would result in engines that do not last….It did not happen.
Pollution controls would make cars unreliable?…Car reliability and durability are at all time highs and the average age of cars on the road is increasing.
Solar and wind were expensive boondoggles? They now cost less than other forms of energy, and so the story goes…I can’t wait to see the idiot holding the snowball this winter asking “Where’s your global warning now? “

WHO CONTROLS THE SKIES OVER BROOKLYN ?
Dear Editor,
Flatbush avenue is the direct pathway of helicopters going to the airports-polluting our Borough with stressful noise and air pollution.
At times, there are 25 to 30 fly overs at low altitudes and over schools, Prospect park and residences along the way…Who is controlling the airways over Brooklyn.

THE (late) QUEEN’s LEADERSHIP!
Dear Editor,
There are few individuals who are universally admired for their leadership on the world stage with grace, poise, dignity and gentility, and who have endured countless challenges and personal tragedies.
The late Queen Elizabeth was such a rare individual…She served to solidify the treasured and long standing bond between our countries and if she ever had a political leaning, it was invisible as she was a friend to American Presidents from both major Parties.
Elizabeth was truly the people’s Queen; she shall be fondly remembered, and her memory cherished for all time.

R.I.P.—BERNARD SHAW
Dear Editor,
I am absolutely devastated by the passing of Bernard Shaw at the age of 82…He was a true Icon in journalism, a man of tremendous class and dignity and a consummate professional…My deepest prayers and condolences go out to his family and friends.

MEMORIES OF EARLY RADIO
Dear Editor,
I have been reading articles about the 100th anniversary of WABC Radio.
Radio was central to my childhood and teenage years.
My generation never went anywhere without our precious “transistor” radios.—Cousin Bruce from ABC; Harry Harrison from WMCA; and Murray the K from WINS were like family…I cherish the memories that they created for me.
I was at the Forest Hills stadium in 1964 when the Beatles came to the United States for the first time…My voice was recorded when several of us managed B.Mitchell Reed’s(the night emcee’s) attention—So at least for a year, our voices screaming incoherently, started his show…Now that’s a memory few can boast.
Thank you all of the DJs who gave my generation som of the best times of our lives.
