Jamaica’s tourist arrivals surpass 1.5 million in four months

KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – Jamaica has surpassed one million visitor arrivals since the start of this year – reaching this milestone in four months. Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett announced during a press conference in Barbados on Sunday.

According to Bartlett, from January through December 2022, Jamaica welcomed over 2 million stopover arrivals, a 69.2 percent increase over 2021 and nearly a full recovery to 2019 highs.

He said that as of May 10 this year, the island had received over a million arrivals, putting the destination on par with 2019 records.

The Tourism Minister added that the tourism industry expects to attract 3.8 million visitors by the end of this year.

Concerning air service, he said Jamaica is continuing to build with new incoming flights from areas such as Denver and St. Louis in the United States.

He also pointed to upcoming upgrades to the Sangster International Airport and said 8,000 hotel rooms would be built in the next two to five years.
