KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC—National Security Minister Dr. Horace Chang announced Wednesday that Deputy Commissioner (DCP) Dr Kevin Blake has been appointed head of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF).

Speaking at the post-cabinet news conference, Chang said that Blake will assume his new position on arch 19, succeeding Major General Anthony Anderson, whose tenure ends on March 18.

“We have no problem accepting Dr Kevin Blake as the next commissioner of police,” Chang said, following the Police Service Commission’s recommendation to Governor General Sir Patrick Allen.

The Jamaica Gleaner newspaper reported that Blake was among four deputy commissioners interviewed for the position last week. The others included the soon-to-retire Fitz Bailey, who heads crime and security; Clifford Blake, who leads strategic operations; and Richard Stewart, who administers and supports services.

The new police commissioner holds a PhD in sustainable development, a Master of Science in computer-based management information systems, and a Bachelor’s degree in computer science and mathematics, all obtained at The University of the West Indies (UWI).

As an assistant superintendent, he joined JCF on a particular entry program and was promoted to DCP in June 2020.
