WINNIPEG, Manitoba, CMC- Stanley Chadee Jr steered 8-1 choice Burrow Down to an upset in the feature CAN$51 000 La Verendrye Stakes but shared some of the spotlights with fellow Trinidadian Prayven Badrie, who rode a double on Tuesday’s seven-race card at Assiniboia Downs.

Going six furlongs for the three-year-old and upward fillies and mares, Burrow Down won a late stretch duel with 5-1 bet Melisandre, with Barbadian Antonio Whitehall aboard, to reach the wire three-quarters of a length precise in a time of one minute, 11.36 seconds.

My Favourite Alberta Sun showed early but faded badly to finish three from last.

Not to be left out, Badrie won race one over 5-½ furlongs with a 2-1 chance Feller, beating the three-year-olds and upward by half-length.

The 32-year-old Badrie returned in another 5-½ furlong sprint in race three, combining with favorite Tale of Atreides to brush aside the three-year-old and upward maiden fillies and mares by 2-¾ lengths.

In the feature race seven, Chadee stalked from fourth as 6-1 choice Damn the Torpedoes and Alberta Sun dueled through fractions of 22.61 seconds and 45.23.

Chadee moved his four-year-old filly up along the rails to take the lead in the stretch and was forced to hold Melisandra off at the wire.
