GEORGETOWN, Guyana, CMC – Law enforcement authorities say they have seized narcotics and alcohol worth millions of dollars (One Guyana dollar=US$0.004 cents) at Crabwood Creek, Corentyne, Berbice.
The Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) said that in collaboration with the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA), they conducted a joint operation as part of efforts to prevent the trafficking of narcotics and the smuggling of contraband goods.
In a statement, CANU said that during the search, several parcels of suspected cannabis and several cases of “uncustomed” alcohol were discovered and that the alleged narcotic was taken to the GRA location for processing and tested positive for imported cannabis with a total weight of 48.5 pounds and a street value of GUY$12.5 million.
CANU gave no dollar value for the alcohol seized and that no one had been detained as a result of the joint operation. It said investigations are continuing.
