GUYANA-BUDGET-Guyana government to present annual budget on January 16

GEORGETOWN, Guyana, January 10 The Guyana government says it will present the 2023 national budget to the Parliament on January 16.

Senior Finance Minister Dr. Ashni Singh has been meeting with stakeholders in preparation for the fiscal package.

“As with budget 2022, this year’s budget is expected to see critical development programs for government being fast-tracked and many more expanded to reflect government’s continued transformational agenda for the country,” according to a government statement.

“Budget 2022 saw major injections in several sectors including more expansion of government’s housing drive, the infrastructure sector …provisions for persons with disabilities (and), several injections toward Amerindian and Hinterland development,” the statement noted.

Last year the government presented what it described as a “historic and transformational” GUY$552.9 billion (One Guyana dollar=US$0.004 cents) fiscal package to the Parliament.
