LONDON, CMC – Bermudian striker Nahki Wells notched his 100th career Championship goal when he came off the bench to bag a second-half double as Bristol City ran riot at Ashton Gate with a 5-0 thrashing of Blackburn Rovers on Wednesday.

The 33-year-old scored a 78th-minute penalty and then added his second deep in stoppage to reach triple figures in the second tier of English football in his third season in the southwest.

With the double, Wells also moved his tally for the season to seven goals, having now scored three in his last three games.

“I’m delighted for Nahki, to be fair,” said City manager Liam Manning.

“It’s a fantastic achievement to get his 100th Championship goal tonight. It’s an extremely proud moment for him and his family, and I congratulate him. Hopefully, there are many more to come.”

Tommy Conway added a first-half brace, laying the foundation for City’s third successive home win, which extended their unbeaten run to five games. Another substitute, Anis Mehmeti, also got on the scoresheet in the second half.

City is 12th with 54 points, while Blackburn is 18th with 46 points, and worryingly, only three points above the drop zone.

Conway put City ahead in the 24th minute when he pressured center-back Dominic Hyam and dispossessed him before beating goalkeeper Aynsley Pears one-on-one.

Eight minutes later, Conway doubled the hosts’ lead from the spot, converting after Hyam chopped down Mark Sykes in the box.

Mehmeti, part of a triple substitution in the 71st minute which included Wells, netted the third after just two minutes on the field, and Wells added a fourth from the spot following Kyle McFadzean’s handball.

With time ticking away at the end, Wells put an exclamation point on his performance by tucking home substitute Harry Cornick’s cross at the back post.
