TAMPA, Florida, CMC – The Trinidad and Tobago defensive pair of Leland Archer and Jelani Peters suffered the misfortune of being sent off in the United Soccer League last weekend.

But while Peters’s Memphis 901 FC completed a comfortable 5-1 victory over Miami FC, Archer’s Charleston Battery suffered a 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Indy Eleven.

The 29-year-old Peters was given his marching orders in the 79th minute with Memphis 901 already winning 4-1 at home at AutoZone Park on Saturday.

Ben Mines, a 57th-minute substitute, slipped the Memphis defense with a strong run before Peters senselessly brought him down to earn a second yellow.

Peters’s sending-off reduced the game to 10 players aside following Boluwatife Akinyode’s dismissal in the 49th after the Nigerian had scored his side’s only goal four minutes before the break.

Memphis led 3-1 at the interval through goals from Jeremy Kelly in the opening minute, penalties from Aaron Molloy in the 22nd minute, and Bruno Lapa in the 34th.

Night Pickering’s delightful chip from 25 yards produced the fourth for Memphis in the 76th before Akeem Ward added the fifth at the death.

Archer’s red card came 24 hours earlier in Mount Pleasant when he was sent off in just the first minute at home at Patriots Point.

With Sebastián Guenzatti through on goal after chesting down a long ball out of midfield, the 27-year-old Archer flagrantly pulled down the Uruguayan, forcing referee Sergii Demianchuk to produce a straight red.

Aodhan Quinn then put the resulting penalty beyond the reach of goalkeeper Trey Muse, the first of his two goals from the spot, with the second coming in the 72nd minute to put the visitors 2-0 up.

Roberto Molina, a 58th-minute substitute, added a third in the 75th minute before Robbie Crawford’s own goal five minutes later capped off his side’s demise.

The battery remains top of the Eastern Conference on 24 points but just one clear of Pittsburgh Riverhounds, while Memphis lies fifth on 18 points.
