LONDON, CMC – Reggae Boy Daniel Johnson scored his first goal of the season to help Stoke City to a share of the points in a 2-2 draw against Huddersfield on Wednesday.

The 30-year-old, who has been capped three times by Jamaica, scored in the 33rd minute to start the comeback at the John Smith’s Stadium after the visitors had fallen behind to Matty Pearson’s headed opener two minutes earlier.

Stoke City went in front through defender Ben Wilmot’s header in the 62nd minute, only to see Jack Rudoni level six minutes later.

For this game, Johnson was asked to play left wing-back without key players, and manager Alex Neil said the shape gave Stoke City increased balance.

“We’ve got injuries to four players who have started the season for us, and I’ve been trying to find a way to make us more solid defensively but also give us a threat going forward,” Neil said.

“Apart from the goals, I thought we found that tonight. The balance was perfect, but we conceded in two naïve moments.”

The result left Stoke City in the bottom three with seven points from seven games, while Huddersfield sits 16th on eight.

In League One on Tuesday, another Jamaica international, Jonson Clarke-Harris, got on the scoresheet with his third goal of the season as Peterborough thrashed Cheltenham 3-0 at home at London Road.

The 29-year-old scored in the 61st minute following a goalless first half, doubling the lead after Harrison Burrows had put the hosts ahead in the 54th minute.

Peter Kioso added the final goal at the death, the win pushing the Posh up to ninth in the standings on 13 points, following their fourth win in eight matches.

In the National League on Tuesday, Grenada international Kairo Mitchell also bagged his third of the season as he helped Rochdale to a point in a 1-1 draw with Boreham Wood.

The 25-year-old put Rochdale ahead at Spotland Stadium in the 47th minute before having the goal canceled out by Tyrone Marsh just a minute later.

Rochdale lie eighth on 15 points while Boreham are 15th on 11 points.
