COLORADO SPRINGS, CMC – Jamaica international Maalique Foster netted twice at the weekend as Colorado Springs Switchbacks warmed up for their United Soccer League Championship campaign with a 4-1 thrashing of Colorado Rapids II in a pre-season encounter here.
The 27-year-old scored in the opening minute at Weidner Field and added his second in the 39th after Panamanian Juan Tejada had doubled the hosts’ advantage in the 35th.
Rapids pulled one back on the stroke of half-time, but Foster then turned provider for the Switchback’s final goal in the 57th when he set up Yosuke Hanya, who was last week signed on loan from Rapids.
Foster is in his second season with the Switchbacks, who he joined before the 2023 season from Sacramento Republic.
Last season, Foster netted four times in 34 appearances, registered four assists, and was second in shots with 43, behind fellow Jamaican Romario Williams (45).
Switchbacks finished fifth in the Western Conference with 43 points to qualify for the playoffs, where they went out in the quarter-finals to San Antonio.
They will wrap up their pre-season campaign on March 2 against USL League One unit Union Omaha before opening the Championship season at Miami FC one week later.
