LONDON, Jamaican striker Jamille Matt could soon be on the move. According to a UK media report, it will be permitted to leave English third-tier strugglers Forest Green Rovers if a proven forward is signed during the January transfer window.

The 33-year-old has made 16 League One appearance, scoring one goal so far this season, and Forest Green are currently bottom of the table after winning League Two last term.

With 323 English Football League appearances under his belt, Matt is attracting interest from several League Two sides and is likely to have his choice of clubs, the outlet added.

“The former Newport County, Plymouth Argyle, and Blackpool forward is thought to be valued highly at Forest Green, but the club will be open to offers at the right price,” Gloucestershire Live reported.

“However, Forest Green will expect to receive a significant fee for the current club captain despite his contract expiry due this summer,” the outlet added.

Matt has scored 39 goals in 109 league appearances for Rovers since joining in July 2020, including 19 goals and seven assists in the title-winning season of 2021/22 that saw Forest Green promoted to League One for the first time in their history.

Speaking ahead of Forest Green’s trip to mid-table Exeter City on Saturday, head coach Ian Burchnall said re-enforcements are imminent.

“We lost Connor Wickham [after his three-month contract ended], so we feel it would be good to add at the top end of the pitch to create more competition and give us different options up there to play different systems,” he said.
